Frequently Asked Questions.
"Telling the truth about our lives is one of the most challenging, yet healing and powerful things we can do"
Why choose Connolly Bree Psychotherapy?
Kathie choose to study psychotherapy because as a previous client, she gained first hand experience and insight into much how growth and positive change a person can gain from active engagement with therapy. Through this experience she came to learn that each individual has the capacity to heal themselves, and that learning to trust one's somatic reaction and intuitiveness in therapy are key to this process.
What happens in the first therapy session?
The initial session is a gentle, introductory time for the therapist and client to get to know one another and to assess whether they will work well together. The therapist will ask what brought the client to seek therapy, what triggered them to attend at this particular time, and whether they have any goals. The therapist might also ask the client for a broad introduction to their background, with an emphasis on significant or challenging events.
When does therapy occur and how long does it last?
All thereputic sessions last fifty minutes and take place weekly at a mutually agreed time and date. On occasion, it may be possible to facilitate bi-weekly sessions, however this is subject to the therapists availability. The duration that the therapy takes place is dependent on the client’s individual needs and goals. It is recommended that endings in therapy occur in a planned way so that the client can maximise learning and achieve closure.
Is therapy confidential?
All sessions are private and confidential in accordance with GDPR. The sole exception involves when the therapist believes the client may be a risk to themselves or others, or that a child may be at risk of serious harm.
